According to Joseph Granville and Leonard Tippett, you can increase your chances of winning.

Granville’s strategy is the more commonly employed. Once a financial writer in the 1960s, the Missouri native used his mathematical skills to determine that the odds of winning are higher if the numbers on your card follow symmetrical logic. Granville discovered that there is a balance between low and high-value numbers as well as between even and odd numbers. Based on these rules, you should have the following items on your bingo card:

  • An identical number of low face and high face value numbers.
  • An identical number of even and odd numbers.
  • An identical number of numbers that end in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.

Joseph Granville appeared regularly on television programs in the USA until his passing in 2013 and was widely respected in both the financial market and for his bingo strategy. He is most famously known for developing the “On-balance volume” (OBV) concept that intends to indicate to relate price and volume in the stock market, based on cumulative total volume.

Tippett’s strategy is even easier to understand. The British statistician analyzed the numbers related to the draws and came to the conclusion that the longer the game lasts, the more numbers are likely to be drawn around the median number (ie 38 in 75-ball bingo).

Conversely, the shorter the bingo game is, the closer the numbers will be to 1 and 75. Therefore:

  • Choose bingo cards with numbers around the middle number 38 for games that are intended to last a long time.
  • Choose bingo cards with different numbers close to 1 and 75 if you are participating in games that are not for the long-term.

Leonard Tippett graduated in physics in the 1920s, and although born in London, spent much of his early life and retirement on the Southwest coast of England in Cornwall. His bingo strategy comes from his book, titled “Random Sampling Numbers”.
