About Taco Bell
The famous American fast food chain, Taco Bell, founded by Glen Bell in 1948, is known for offering the food lovers with spectacular tacos, burritos, nachos, and quesadillas. In every visit, the customers get improved quality and taste compared to their previous visit, as the restaurant is focusing significantly on the quality of their food. The restaurant does not compromise on the quality and wants to provide nothing but excellent quality food and services to its customers.
From an unpopular Hot Dog Stand to Becoming the famous Taco Bell
Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell who used to own a small hot dog stand “Bell’s Drive-In” in San Bernardino, California. He started selling hot dogs at the age of 23 in 1946. After selling hot dogs for four years, he upgraded to a hamburger stand and named it, “Bell’s Hamburgers and Hot Dogs.” But Glen wanted more, something that his hot dogs and hamburgers were not providing him with.
The long queue he saw outside the Mexican restaurant, Mitla Café, right across his hamburger stand got him curious as to what magic was the café putting into their hard-shelled tacos which attracted so many people every day. He did experiment with his skills with the tacos, but all his tries failed miserably. Even after that, Glen did not lose hope and began dining at Mitla Café for two years every day. By frequently eating and examining the tacos, he tried to use his reverse-engineering skills to discover the recipe, but he failed, yet again.
He became a regular customer and a close friend of the owner. The owner shared the recipe of his magical tacos with him and took him to see the entire process through which they created the famous tacos. He used the secret recipe, created the tacos, and opened his taco stand with the name “Taco Tia” in 1956. His tacos became popular, and that is how a stolen taco recipe was used to make America’s favorite taco place, the Taco Bell, which was set up as a restaurant in 1962. Two years later, the restaurant became so profitable and well-known that a franchise opened, making Taco Bell one of the most popular fast food chain in America!
In the year 1978, Pepsi bought the whole fast food chain and still owns it. Since 1956, the place has been serving delicious tacos, and now they have added some additional items on the menu including burritos, quesadillas, and nachos.
The history of Taco Bell is interesting, and it simply adds to the flavor of the food they serve to their customers!

The 19-cent Taco
The menu of the Taco Bell has been filled with items that are easy-on-pocket. But can you imagine that this place used to serve delicious tacos in just 19 cents when it first opened?
The Bell in the Taco Bell is not a Bell
The fast-food chain has been named after the founder himself, Glen Bell! So, the bell in its name is not a bell but a person’s name!
Pepsi Owns Taco Bell

The Logo was a Disappointment
Before Pepsico bought the Taco Bell, its logo was simply a disappointment, and it was a complete mess. With a cleaner concept in mind, Pepsico redesigned the logo.
The Famous Target Promotion
When it comes to promotions, Taco Bell steals the spotlight. In 2001, when the Mir Space Station was being brought down by Russia, which was supposed to splash in the ocean, Taco Bell grabbed the opportunity to promote itself. They put a huge floating target in the South Pacific and promised to provide every single American with a free taco if any part of the space station touched the target. Even though it did not happen, it certainly was a great way to promote.
Not popular in Mexico
Even though tacos are a part of Mexican cuisine, Taco Bell was unable to gain the expected fame there. It is a popular food chain in the Middle East, Asia, Russia, and Iceland but not in Mexico.
First Fast Food Chain to Hire Managers
Glen Bell used to work with his aunt, who ran a bakery. Therefore, he had a high status for women who worked. Taco Bell became the first ever fast food chain to hire women as managers!
88 percent Beef
In 2011 the Taco Bell was sued by the Alabama law firm who claimed that the Taco Bell’s beef contains only 35% beef. Taco Bell addressed the issue smartly, and as the facts began to roll out, it was found that the claim was false and the firm dropped the suit.
Best at Making Publicity Stunts
Doing publicity stunts is common for Taco Bell. On April 1, 1996, The Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News and USA Today published that Taco Bell has purchased the liberty bell. It gave rise to so many protestors that by noon, Taco Bell announced that it was a joke. Talking about publicity stunts, Taco Bell petitioned the government and asked them to bring back the $2 bills. They did it to promote their $2 menu. Even though the government did not take it seriously, it did prove to be a great promotional stunt!
No Kids’ Menu
The Taco Bell was the first every fast food chain that stopped offering the kids’ menu. The focus of this fast-food chain is the people in their 20s and 30s. The kids’ menu was not very successful, and it was a reason why it was discontinued, and Taco Bell rebranded itself as the edgy millennial brand.
